Most repairs undertaken are something that doesn't necessarily impede the watch's ability function, but can detract from the look or wearability of the watch. Without the correct tools, knowledge and experience vintage watches can prove a challange to many watch repairers. Anything from hands that have come loose, hour marks which need to be refitted to the dial, a worn crown, scratched glass, all these can be relatively easy inexpensive fixes, and don't necessarily require a full service or particularly invasive procedures.
